Convertible display shipments are expected to reach 117.7 million units in 2029 with a 2.7% share of the total flat panel display market, according to the latest searches from Omdia.
Omdia defines convertible screens in terms of bend radius and transmission, and classifies them as foldable, foldable, rollable, stretchable and transparent screens.
The foldable screen is expected to be the most developed form factor through 2029, due to its expansion through premium smartphone apps. Foldable display shipments are expected to increase to 107.5 million units in 2029 with a 2.5% share of the total flat panel display market, and the CAGR will be 28% from 2022 to 2029.
The OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display is expected to be the most spotlighted technology than any other convertible display. The OLED screen is self-emissive and fine-structured which can be flexible and transparent and enables the design of various transformable screens such as a foldable screen.
“LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) continues to dominate the transparent display market in terms of shipping area, due to its popularity in the showcase and cooler market where the light source can be integrated,” said Jerry Kang, Head of Omdia Research.
