(MENAFN) Iran’s annual petrochemical shipments are expected to reach $18 billion in the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 20, 2023), the chief director of the National Petrochemical Company has announced ( NPCs).

Morteza Shahmirzaei said that at present, the petrochemical field has the greatest added value in the petroleum industry chain.

The official also estimated the country’s annual petrochemical production volume at 90 million tons.

He said that “Some products were not accounted for in previous periods and we were faced with importing them at a cost of five billion dollars,” adding, “Propylene chain products are of particular importance and comprise 70% of total petrochemical imports”. . To reduce dependency, the petrochemical company has focused on developing value chain projects.

He went on to mention that the supply of propylene is vital for the supply of food for this chain, and currently the production volume of propylene is one million tons per year, and the needs of the country are greater than this. amount.
