Midnight M2 MacBook Air delivery moves to mid-August, see options

Apple started pre-ordering the M2 MacBook Air this Friday. If you’re thinking of buying this redesigned Mac, you’re already out of luck if you want it delivered to your house next Friday, July 15th.

All models can take at least a few weeks to ship. At the moment, the MacBook Air Midnight M2 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage is the most popular option – or at least the hardest to get – with an estimated shipping of 4-5 weeks.

Other midnight options, for example, will take approximately 2-3 weeks to ship. For those who don’t mind the new M2 MacBook Air option, the reliable Space Gray base model will still ship in 1-2 weeks. We also find the Starlight model with 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of SSD storage with the same delivery dates.

The new MacBook Air features the most significant design change to the MacBook Air line in a decade, with a uniformly flat body, larger screen, and thinner screen bezels. Like the 2021 MacBook Pro, the front camera is now housed in a display notch. The M2 chip improves CPU and GPU performance, approximately 20% faster than the already speedy MacBook Air M1.

Apple says complex workloads like editing video in Final Cut or applying filters in Photoshop are 20-40% faster than the MacBook Air M1, and an order of magnitude faster for customers who are upgrading from older Intel-based Airs. And all that power doesn’t have to come at the expense of battery life; Apple says customers should be able to get up to 18 hours of continuous video playback on a single charge.

For those who didn’t pick up a new MacBook Air M2 yesterday, there’s also a chance to get one in person when orders finally begin next Friday, July 15.
