iPhone shipping: July-September quarter sees iPhone shipments soar

Apple’s iPhone shipments in India in the July-September quarter increased 8% year-on-year and 44% sequentially to 1.7 million units amid aggressive discounts, as the market continues to see strong demand for high-end smartphones, Cyber Media Research (CMR) said.

Apple is expected to secure its highest market share to date in the country in 2022, improving to a record 4.4% in 2021, CMR said.

“In the third quarter of 2022 and heading into the all-important holiday season, older generation Apple iPhones, including the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series, saw gains through aggressive discounts,” Prabhu said. Ram, manager – industry intelligence group at RMC, told ET.

The new iPhone 14 series also saw strong shipments despite being introduced late in the quarter, driven by early manufacturing and strong consumer demand, Ram added.

During the September quarter, the iPhone 12 and 14 were the top performers among Apple smartphones, each grabbing 28% market share, followed by the iPhone 13 series which accounted for 26% of all iPhone shipments. The older iPhone 11 series managed to capture 18% market share.

Apple began manufacturing the iPhone 14 in India within 10 days of its global launch at manufacturing partner Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu factory. The company has been manufacturing iPhones in India since 2017.
