First shipment of Egyptian grapes arrives in Brazil amid climate crisis via Tridge

Seoul, South Korea, September 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Tridge, the South Korean agricultural trading platform, has successfully facilitated the first-ever export of Egyptian grapes to Brazil.

A major food wholesaler in Sao Paulo, Brazilrecently purchased two containers – the equivalent of 28 tonnes – of Egyptian grapes through Tridge’s platform. This is the first batch of Egyptian grapes imported into Brazilaccording to Brazilian commercial records.

BrazilChina, as a major agricultural producing country, rarely imports foreign grapes, with its grape import volume ranking 67th last year. However, the demand for foreign grapes is increasing due to recent extreme weather conditions. A large volume of Brazilian grapes has deteriorated this season due to heavy rains and cold fronts South of Brazil.

“It’s the perfect time to export Egyptian grapes, which are currently in the middle of the grape harvest. said Oh Kwang, Commercial Director of Tridge. “The MERCOSUR – Egypt Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in 2020 paved the way for the export of Egyptian grapes to Brazilwho made this unique trade agreement a success.”

According to data from Tridge, exports of Brazilian grapes have fallen by more than 45% year-on-year in the first six months of 2022. The price of Brazilian grapes has increased by up to 20% year-on-year in some regions, according to compiling data from Tridge.

In the midst of a global food crisis, Tridge is actively seeking alternative buyers and suppliers for its perishable products with notable success. For example, when war-related trade sanctions Ukraine stopped exporting fresh produce to RussiaTridge redirected them to Europe when they were already en route by sea.
