A recently released report suggests that shipment of 5G smartphones in India witnessed a significant 300% year-on-year increase in the first quarter of 2022. The report was released by Cybermedia Research on Wednesday that Samsung and Xiaomi led the 5G smartphone market. Samsung managed to have a 23% market share in the 5G segment while Xiaomi had an 18% market share. The data reveals that Apple topped the super premium price segment which falls between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1,00,000 as it held around 77% market share.
However, most research reports hinted at lower shipments in the first quarter of 2022 due to supply issues and inflation fears. According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), smartphone shipments in the country dropped to 37 million units in the first quarter. This suggests that there was a 5% year-on-year decline in shipments in the first quarter of 2022. Xiaomi managed to maintain its top position in the market while Realme was the only brand to experience a increase in shipments during the quarter. .
