Belarus and Kazakhstan speed up freight shipping by rail

MINSK, Oct. 21 (BelTA) — Belarus and Kazakhstan intend to step up freight forwarding by rail. The plans were mentioned during a roundtable held in Astana to promote the transport and logistics potential of Belarusian railways for transporting exports and imports to and from Kazakhstan, BelTA learned.

The event brought together more than 80 participants representing about 40 Kazakh companies specializing in mining, oil extraction, chemical industry, gas industry, metallurgy, agriculture, shipping companies, transport and logistics as well as representatives of Belarusian enterprises belonging to the timber industry, the timber industry, the food industry, transport and forwarding companies. The logistics and transport potential of the Belarusian and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Railways was presented, in particular their ability to transport freight between Belarus and Kazakhstan and in transit through the two countries. The participants of the round table were also familiarized with the capabilities and forwarding services of the official transport company of Belarusian Railways BTLC (Belintertrans – Transport and Logistics Center). Joint efforts to organize freight transport in containers between China and Europe and between Belarus and China were also covered.

A lively dialogue followed the presentations and reports. Roundtable participants discussed the development prospects of existing projects and relevant transport and logistics solutions. Opinions and proposals were exchanged on the further development of freight transport between Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Particular attention was paid to the unimpeded shipment of cargo from Belarus to Kazakhstan and to China in transit through Kazakhstan, including as part of container trains. The participants of the meeting outlined further stages of interaction capable of improving the efficiency of joint work and ensuring the realization of new avenues of cooperation in the field of railway logistics.
